Korean Conjunctions: ‘and’ (2), ‘but’, ‘therefore’

36. Sentences like ‘I am reading a book. And my friend is playing the piano.’ 저는 책을 읽습니다. 그리고 제 친구는 피아노를 칩니다. /t͡ɕʌ̹nɯn t͡ɕʰɛgɯɭ ikssɯmnida. kɯrigo t͡ɕe t͡ɕʰingunɯn pʰianorɯɭ t͡ɕʰimnida/

Korean uses 그리고 /kɯrigo/ as ‘and’ (+ also, in addition) conjunction to connect verbs. It can connect two actions performed by different subjects at the same time or two actions performed by one subject sequentially.

눈이 흽니다. 그리고 풀은 푸릅니다.	The snow is white. And the grass is green.
그분은 점심을 먹었습니다. 그리고 직장에 갔습니다.	He had/ate lunch. And went to work.
그 아이는 아침을 먹었습니다. 그리고 아버지와 같이 유치원에 갔습니다.	That child ate breakfast. And went to kindergarten with (his) father.
저는 버스를 탔습니다. 그리고 제 집으로 갔습니다.	I got on the bus. And I went to my house.
그분은 박 선생님을 혹시 만났습니다. 그리고 그분들은 한동안 이야기했습니다.	He met Mr Park by chance. And they talked for a while.
그 여자는 얼굴이 예쁩니다. 그리고 다리도 예쁩니다.	She has a pretty face. And she has pretty legs, too.
저는 원숭이를 좋아합니다. 그리고 돼지도 좋아합니다.	I like monkeys. And I like pigs, too.

하지만 /had͡ʑiman/ is an adversative conjunction ‘but’ (+ however).
