Gibt es im Hotel einen Dolmetscher?
Is there an interpreter in the hotel?Notice the multiple meanings of the verb:
abholen to pick up; to collect the order:
Ich hole Sie ab. – I’ll pick you up.
Wann kann ich Sie abholen? – When can I pick you up?
Wann kann ich den Anzug abholen? – When can I collect the suit? (When the suit will be ready?)The noun der Salon in this activity is used in the meaning of a hairdressing salon. The prefix Herren- is for men, and Damen- is for women:
der Herrensalon barber’s
der Damensalon beauty parlour
Remember the following way of word-formation (1)
der Herr + en + der Friseur = der Herrenfriseur
die Dame + n + der Friseur = der Damenfriseur
Practise in reading the words

Grammar points
In this activity you have learned about the modal verb können (can, be able to), which, unlike the verb dürfen, expresses physical capacity, not a permission:
Darf ich rauchen?
May I smoke?
Kann ich Sie anrufen?
Can I call you? (Do you have a phone number?)
Remember the forms of the verb können:
ich kann
er kannwir können
Sie könnenThe verb lassen has two main meanings:
a. “leave”:
Lassen Sie die Formulare im Hotel! – Leave the forms in the hotel!
b. “to let” “to allow” etc.:
Lassen Sie ihn kommen! – Let him come!
In the latter meaning the verb lassen is also used when the action is done by someone else; in this case we will use the structure have something done, compare:
I wash my shirts (myself).
Ich wasche meine Hemden.
I have my shirts washed (in the laundry).
Ich lasse meine Hemden waschen.Remember the forms of the verb lassen.
ich lasse
er läßtwir lassen
Sie lassenIf the verb lassen is used in perfekt with another verb, then we use infinitive instead of participle II:
Ich habe meine Hemden waschen lassen. – I had my shirts washed.
